We said farewell to the Warriors and continued on our way a further three hours to Beijing. After a long travel day we settled into our hotel around 5.30am Melbourne time (2.30am China time).

Thumbs up in the air

Some welcomed rest was had as we were all exhausted! Although still a little weary, we are all very excited about our first day in Beijing! We are about to head off to the Forbidden City, more later.

China Warriors safe in Shanghai

After a 10.5 hour flight from Melbourne, the Warriors arrived in Shanghai. We bade farewell at Shanghai airport to the Dragons, who had a further 3 hours or so to arrive in Beijing. Both groups behaved magnificently on the long plane trip, despite poor quality visual entertainment served up by China Eastern airlines! Despite settling into our hotel at about 1.30am Sunday morning (Melb time), the students were enormously excited to gain their first glimpse of Shanghai’s incredible night lights as we travelled from the airport to the hotel. It is now early Sunday morning in Shanghai and a very excited group is getting prepared for a trip to the Bund and Pudong today. Bigger report and photos later!!

Vietnam Red – Are you ready?

Ok, consult your list.  Make sure you have everything, especially hand gel and a pen that works.  It can be very frustrating when you are trying to fill in forms and your pen won’ t work. Make sure you give your pets a hug and thank your parents for everything they are doing for you.  Departure Sunday evening. See you all then.

I’m SUPER Excited!!

Hi Everyone!

Wow, I can’t believe there is just two more sleeps until we are going on an experience of a lifetime!
I hope you are all packed up, or getting that way anyway and are just as excited as I am.  After going last year I just can’t wait to see all the Fijian’s smiling friendly faces again :-)!

Remember to pack as many things as you can for the villagers, who will soon become your second family.  Think of stationary, small games, balls, glow sticks for the children and any clothes, tea towels, bed linen for your new parents.

Well there’s not that much more left to say, other than…Goodbye cold rainy melbourne, HELLO beautiful islands in Fij.  See you all at 6:45pm on Sunday

Miss Thompson 🙂

Hi Vietnam Yellow!

Here are a few reminders before we head off on our amazing adventure:

□    You need to have a blue/black pen in your hand luggage.

□    Remember – no sharp objects in your hand luggage.  Use a zip-lock bag for any liquids you are taking on as hand luggage.

□    Pack Aqium gel in suitcase.

□    Lock your suitcase with a sturdy lock, pack a spare lock.

□    Arrive at school on Sunday night, October 31, at 8.30pm, we leave at 8.45pm.

□    Take approx $10-20 in Australian dollars as you may wish to purchase a drink or snack at the airport.

□    Don’t fill your luggage!  Leave space for buying things over there.

□    If you wish, put your spare cash into a clearly named envelope for safe keeping by staff.

□    Remind parents of where to get updates: https://bigexperience.wordpress.com/

□    Tropical strength insect repellant.

□    No phones, take the SIM out of your iPhone/smartphone.

□    Trip T-shirt to be worn on the plane. You will also need a light windcheater as planes can get a bit cold in just a shirt.

□    When packing – FOLLOW THE PACKING LIST!

□    Remember to pack your gloves.

□    Don’t bring ANY unnecessary valuables (eg. jewellery).

I for one … can’t wait.
